ARTICLE
It is well known that advertising is the engine of commerce, that is, it largely determines whether sales are successful or not, so it is no wonder that any company invests heavily in this area of activity.

Due to the exceptional importance of the goals that are set for advertising, many revolutionary solutions and ideas that change our lives come precisely from the world of marketing.

Definition of 3D mapping

3D mapping is very hard to describe in two words, so you hear from ordinary people phrases that at best can only remotely tell you what mapping is - "laser show", "light show", "3D show", "show in which a building collapses", etc.

If we turn to the translators, that, for example, Google translates the English word "mapping" as "display" and "transformation", so we get 3D mapping and 3D transformation. But even these word combinations cannot answer the question "What kind of a creature is 3D mapping?

So let's try to form the most complete and informative definition of this mysterious phenomenon in the world of advertising.

3D mapping - a special direction in audio-visual sphere, which is a three-dimensional projection on some physical object of the environment, taking into account its geometry and position in space.

This technology allows you to modify the visual characteristics of a particular object by means of video projection, and it allows you to turn almost any surface into a dynamic video screen.

It is a unique advertising technology, understandable for people of all ages, races and religions, distinguished by its scale, exclusivity, uniqueness and memorability. It has the ability to grab attention, get people talking about themselves, and go viral.
Another way to describe 3D mapping is that it is a video projection that has several key features:

1) Either the surface on which the projection is being made has a complex shape
2) Either the content itself gives the illusion of changing the shape of the projected surface
3) Or both

Separately, we should note that in the Russian segment of the Internet it is customary to say mapping, but you can also meet the words - mapping. Synonyms for 3D mapping are the following words and phrases: video mapping, projection mapping, 3D projection and others.

History of 3D mapping

The first 3D mapping was seen by visitors to the American Disneyland back in 1969, who came to the opening of the new attraction "Haunted Manor". They witnessed the first three-dimensional projection on a complex surface - a 16mm film projected onto the busts, bringing the heads to life as they sang an ominous song.

The next mapping had to wait 11 long years, from which we can conclude that the technology of the late 60's and 70's did not allow to make a convincing projection picture, so the mapping did not give the expected effect.

In 1980, an installation artist named Michael Nymark filmed different people in the same living room, and then projected the footage onto the same room, creating the illusion that people were in the room at the moment - moving around, picking up objects, talking to each other, etc.

These two events were just harbingers of an incipient technology of the future. The first time projection mapping was explored by professionals was only 30 years after Disneyland mapping, in the late '90s.

Students at the University of North Carolina were working on an "Office of the Future" project, trying to connect remote offices from different places by projecting people onto them, creating the illusion of all people being in one, partnered, office.
In the early "noughties", when the Internet began to boom, video mapping finally really came alive and began to develop. More and more artists began to use mapping technology in their creative work, and corporations, like Microsoft, used it as a demonstration of technological superiority over the competition.

If you try to search for quality early works on 3D mapping you'll find videos dating back to 2010 and related to the architectural direction in this field (projection on a building).

Where 3D mapping is used, how and why

It is safe to say that at the moment 3D mapping is the only direction in the advertising industry that continues to develop at a breakneck pace, gaining thousands and thousands of fans every day.

It was 3D mapping that spread around the Internet with hundreds of all sorts of clips, taking the property of a viral video. Every day the videos with 3D mapping get millions of views, and the number of videos themselves is growing day by day.

More and more often architectural 3D mapping is chosen as the main entertainment moment for the celebration of the City Day, major public holidays, etc. Even such an integral part of any major celebration, as fireworks, began to replace its 3D mapping counterpart.

In turn, interior 3D mapping has become a permanent guest at all kinds of opening and closing ceremonies of sports events, tournaments, championships, cups, etc.

Object 3D mapping has become indispensable for creating art objects, exhibition stands, car presentations and other products.

Gradually gaining popularity micromapping, with which, for example, you can make a 3D projection on a wedding cake, bars, dining tables, etc.

As in the case of celebrations of large celebrations for an unlimited audience of a district or an entire city, at corporate events 3D mapping increasingly gets the main role for the artistic design of the surrounding space - especially widely used projection on the wall.

Entire show programs, concerts, as well as circus and even theater productions use 3D mapping to create scenery of varying degrees of complexity.

More and more often there are marketing events that are made primarily with 3D mapping, and then other technologies, including the usual physical expression of objects.
More and more cafes and restaurants realize that 3D mapping is a great solution to the question-task of "how to attract customers to a cafe or restaurant?", as it is the perfect solution for transforming the interior design of a cafe or restaurant.

Recently, shopping, entertainment and children's centers, as well as stores, cafes, restaurants and other public institutions began to create interactive floors, which enthuse both adults and children (especially the latter).

Such a widespread use of 3D mapping can be explained simply - it is unique, attractive, fascinating, with its help you can do things that are inaccessible with conventional physical objects. The main feature of this technology - it's visual, ie, it can be filmed, photographed and then posted on the Internet, or just to show friends / acquaintances, and this is an extremely important feature in our era of social networks and video services.

3D mapping (including the direction of the interactive floor) does not require any special preparations and manipulations, so in one form or another, it can be used at almost any event, provided it is dark or indoor.

Also in recent years is becoming increasingly popular projection advertising, made on buildings of all kinds.

Interior 3D mapping

Interior 3D mapping is the projection of a video image on walls, floor, ceiling, furniture and other interior surfaces. Normal static walls of the room are transformed into dynamic surfaces. Compared with 3D mapping on buildings, interior projection is much easier, faster and cheaper to implement. Currently, 3D is actively used in PR promotion of cafes, restaurants, and banquet halls, in addition, this technology is activated even in educational institutions
Mostly for creating interior 3D mapping, residential budget projectors from 2500 to 5000 lumens of brightness are used. Each of the projectors can cover a wall from 3 to 7 meters wide, depending on the ambient lighting in the room and the color of the surface.

The projector is connected to a computer, from which the image is displayed. The easiest and most affordable solution for interior 3D mapping is the POGUMAX Designer software. It allows you to adjust the projection, taking into account the position of interior objects. The program includes a ready base of animations (more than 1200 pieces) and the ability to embed your own videos, pictures and text.

As for the cost of interior video mapping, creating a permanent projection on one wall will cost the customer 90-120 thousand rubles.

We use short throw projectors in our sets. They are the perfect fit for use in small spaces ranging from 7 to 25 square meters and have the capacity to create large images of 3-8 meters wide from an average distance of 1.5-4 meters.

To consult you on projections size, please let us know your room size.

How many projectors will be needed in the room?

Our clients use from one to several projectors to cover one or more walls. We have prepared a material, in which we show variants of projections with different numbers of projectors - from 1 to 4.
